This is an original essay that I used for my English class. ANY REPRODUCITON OF THIS ESSAY WITH OUT MY CONSENT IS PROHIBITED. I have gathered much of this information from my own experience in selling vintage clothing and some is general knowledge among vintage dealers. However, a vast majority of names and statistics came from Jonathan Walford's book, “Forties Fashion". He is an AMAZING author and authority in many areas of vintage fashion. I suggest that you buy his book! Here is an Amazon link, http://www.amazon.com/Forties-Fashion-Siren-Suits-Look/dp/0500514291.

I will be posting this original essay in segments, starting with the last first. Why? Due to the nature of blogs, it will be easier to read once the final post is done, in reverse, so to speak. Please enjoy and also I love to gain knowledge. Not that I didn't see it coming. That woman was off her rocker since the beginning of the movie. Leo's character is not forgiven for his adultery, but he did not push her into insanity. Even if the had went to Paris would that have helped? Maybe it was just the Baby Blues. A woman goes through a lot with pregnancy hormones, or may be there is no real reason why other than that's the way the author wrote it! Either way, once again Leo gives me another reason to respect him as a great actor much to my dismay. No matter how hard, I try I have to be honest, and I don't like his baby face for the roles he plays, he is a good actor. Which takes me back to Angelina Jolie, and the changeling. Another movie where an actor (well actress) has a break through performance for me. I guess the heart of the matter, I am a softy for movies set in the 60s and older. Enough said I suppose.

Vintage HOT! I think for me its better to see accurate vintage clothing. Perhaps much of the clothing is true vintage. Most people look over these trivial little things but not a vintage connoisseur. "The Changeling" and "Revolutionary Road" are two BIG thumbs up for me. It makes the movie when I feel I have stepped back in time.

Doesn't everyone use time period exact clothing. NO! that's the short answer. I came across some pictures from the "Great Gatsby" produced in 1949. It was great. I could immediately tell the movie was from the late 40s (I honestly thought early 50s) by the clothing, and it was made to resemble 1920s clothing but it just didn't cut it. Its amazing, how much money do you think they spent making wardrobes incorrectly? People were probably throwing their flapper dresses away by the bag fulls since they were so unfeminine by this period.

Well I don't know why I am ranting on, I have nothing to talk about really. I am just excited with "Revolutionary Road" and hope the rest of the movie goes as well! I will go into more detail and get some pictures up of these movies (RR, Changeling and Great Gatsby) later tonight focusing on the eras and why they are grand!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://vintagevisage.blogspot.com/2009/10/vintage-hot-some-vintage-in-movies-that.html' title='Vintage HOT! I have never blogged before, I feel like an old foggie. I need to learn all these new fangled contraptions you youngsters are using. Back in my day I had to type one handed on a rusty type writter and tape the paper to a box. Now that was instant messaging.

Seriously, not. I am only 26 but I missed a few years on the pc and I feel like I crawled out of the stone age.

So I love vintage clothing and the addiction gets worse the older I get. I hate the 80's, its not vintage sorry! It was a mistake but if thats all you, you can have it! I grew up in the 80s so I am bias I suppose. Horrid flashbacks of side ponytails and abstract geometric neon prints, an OCD person's nightmare turned reality. Well lets be fair, I am sure in 20 or so years I will look back and enjoy much about this era but right now I hold and incurable grudge. Two to be exact.
One my mother dressed me in those horrid acid wash jeans, I felt like walking trailer trash... ummm wait I think I was? Oh and lets not even go there with the "I fried my hair" perm and I pranced around thinking it looked good, sure on a poodle!
Secondly, as a vintage fashion lover it kills me to see the 80s rip off the 40s and 50s just to mutilate the styles by adding 3 feet wide bows, hemlines jacked up to the buttocks and neons neons neons. Just because it's neon does not mean it matches, pink still does not match orange and green no matter how bright and grotesque they are.

Here is a wonderful example, and the poor thing is trying to sell this "vintage" piece.
